The Best Low Carb Indian Food Recipes. Try these Low Carb Indian Recipes to give a bit of flare to your keto diet. They will not disappoint!
If you’ve been following a keto diet for a while then quite possibly you’ve gotten into a routine where you’ll make the same 3 or 4 recipes every week. Don’t worry, it’s not just you. I do this too.
One way to combat the keto blues and get yourself out of a keto rut is to try new low carb recipes.
We recently made this Low Carb Indian Butter Chicken Recipe, and it got us thinking. What other low carb Indian food recipes are out there?
WHAT SPICES ARE USED IN INDIAN FOOD?
- Most common is Garam masala
- Coriander
- Cumin
- Cardamom
- Mustard Seed
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Fenugreek
- Black Pepper
- Paprika
- Fennel
- Nutmeg
- Cloves
- Chinese Cinnamon AKA Cassia Bark
- Tumeric
- Saffron
So a lot of these spices used in Indian Food are pretty common. I had all of them on hand except for the Chinese Cinnamon, Saffron (because it’s expensive!) and the Garam Masala.
Before having this butter chicken recipe, I don’t think I’ve intentionally eaten any Indian Food.
I think it’s because I live in a small town of about 15,000 people and we don’t really have a really diverse population, nor a lot of mom and pop restaurants. Most of our restaurants are fast food joints unfortunately.
Don’t worry, if you only have fast food places around you, you can still eat out and stay in ketosis.
Check out our Keto Fast Food List to see what you can eat at fast food joints and still stay in ketosis.
Okay, lets get onto the Indian recipes!

Erhmm, Since when beef was part of Indian Food?
Faith Gorsky says
J N, We included a recipe that someone adapted using beef that had an Indian flavor profile and fit into a ketogenic lifestyle. We in no way meant to be culturally insensitive; please accept our sincerest apology!
Shruu says
Just wanted to say that there’s no need to apologize, as you did not say “Hindu Brahmin” food. You said “Indian recipes” and beef is not excluded from that. There was no cultural insensitivity there.
Thank you for these recipes, ladies. As an ethnic brought up Hindu Indian, I am glad that many others find it to be possible to still go keto with Indian food! Another suggestion to try: mint and coriander coconut curry with green beans and tofu!
Faith Gorsky says
Shruu, Thank you so much for your kind comment. You made my day. <3

For Eons, Beef is the source of protein for many including some Hindus.
“Not for the majority but for minority”if you understand what I mean.
S says
India has many religious / ethnic communities, including very ancient and large Muslim and Christian populations. Beef is very much part of the Indian cultural landscape. Some Hindu subgroups also have historically consumed beef.
So, for J N, beef has been part of Indian food for centuries. There are many authentic Indian beef recipes. Google for recipes from Christian or Muslim communities from Kerala, Goa, Mumbai, etc.
