Why You’ll Love This Pizza

  • Bready texture. Let’s face it; texture is what a lot of us miss most when we eat keto! This pizza will fill that void. This crust is soft, chewy yet crispy around the edges, and so bready.
  • Gooey, cheesy deliciousness. They don’t skimp on the cheese in Detroit, and we don’t skimp on the cheese here! Actually, we double up. Sharp cheddar adds flavor and chewy texture to the crust, and loads of mozzarella on top provide the full pizza effect.
  • Quick and easy to make. You can make this pizza faster than you can Uber delivery from your favorite local pizzeria!
  • It’s pizza and breadsticks all in one. The garlic butter dipping sauce is optional, but if you like buttery garlic breadsticks, make it! Dip your crust. Thank me later.

Step-by-Step Instructions

How to Make Keto Detroit Style Pizza Dough (It’s Not Fathead!):

how to make detroit pizza dough
  1. Add the almond flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to a bowl, and whisk to combine. Add the eggs, butter, and cream.
  2. Mix to combine; the dough will look wet at this point.
  3. Add the shredded cheddar. Yup, it’s a lot of cheese!
  4. Stir in the cheddar; the dough should be quite a bit thicker now.

How to Make Keto Detroit Style Pizza:

how to assemble keto pizza
  1. Spread the dough out evenly onto a nonstick 9 by 13-inch pan.
  2. Bake until the crust is puffed and golden along the outside, about 20 minutes.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce on top, leaving about a 1/4-inch border all around.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly on top. Return to the oven and cook until the cheese is melted, about 8 minutes. After this, if you want to brown the top, broil for a couple minutes (stay with it, broiling can go fast!).

Storage and Reheating

Once the pizza is cool, you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

You can reheat it in a 350F oven or air fryer until warm.

Detroit Pizza FAQs

What is Detroit Style Pizza?

Similar to Sicilian pizza, Detroit pizza is a large rectangular pie with a chewy crust. However, the crust is covered with cheese and toppings on a Detroit style pizza. Essentially, the toppings go all the way to the edges of the pizza!

Detroit pizza is also similar to Chicago pizza in the sense that they’re both deep-dish. The difference between these two is the order of toppings. Detroit layers dough, then sauce, and then cheese and other toppings. On the other hand, Chicago layers dough, then cheese and other toppings, and then sauce.

What Type of Pan Can I Use to Make Detroit Pizza?

You will need a 9 by 13-inch nonstick pan to make this pizza.

You can either use a baking tray (with low or no sides) or a casserole dish.

If you go with a baking tray, leave a little border around the outside so the toppings don’t spill over.

However, if you use a casserole dish you can go all the way to the edges with the toppings in true Detroit style!

Can I Add Other Toppings?

Absolutely! Feel free to add your favorite pizza toppings here.
