Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce
Ah, flank steak. Among the most underrated cuts of steak at your grocery store or butcher shop! Don’t let it fool you, your wallet and stomach will thank you for sure with this inexpensive cut, yet delicious piece of meat.
How to cut flank steak
Always cut flank steak across the grain. This means that you should cut your flank steak against the fibers running through it. This will make your steak more tender and easier to chew, as you are shortening the muscle fibers by cutting across the grain.
How to grill flank steak
We opt to make our steak tender AF by first marinading the flank steak in a delicious but easy AF marinade before we throw that sucker on the grill.
The ingredients for our flank steak marinade:
- Avocado oil
- Apple cider vinegar
- Black pepper
First, add all ingredients to a gallon-size zip-top plastic bag and marinate in the fridge for 1 hour or up to 2 days. Next, get your grill screaming hot.
Cook the steak 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Finally, let the meat rest 10 to 15 minutes, and then thinly slice across the grain.
How long to grill flank steak
You should grill flank steak for about 3 to 4 minutes (medium rare) on each side, or until your steak has reached your desired level of doneness.
Flank steak price

Is there another word for flank steak?
Though we wouldn’t say there is another name for flank steak, a “london broil” is a type of steak dish that can be made from the flank of the cow. There are cuts of steak that are similar to flank steak, such as hanger or skirt steak. The most similar of these is the skirt steak.
Flank steak vs skirt steak
Skirt steak is a thin, yet fatty and chewy cut of meat that is best marinated and often used in fajitas. Flank steak is similar to skirt steak, but is much leaner. Flank steak is great for grilling and tenderizes easily in a marinade.
Do you have to tenderize flank steak?
You don’t have to tenderize flank steak but we do because typically flank steak is tough AF. We tenderize our flank steaks by making a super easy flank steak marinade. You can secure a tender flank steak by marinating, cutting across the grain, and slicing the steak nice and thin. Oh, and try our marinade…seriously…it’s freakin’ good.
